First, there were the Airstream trailers, then came the Bustaurants, and now: a coffee shop in a shipping container. Jesse Griffiths of Austin's Dai Due Supper Club just clued us into La Boîte ("the box"), a 160 square foot café that opened in November. Not only is the place green (environmentally-sensitive packaging, ample recycling bins—heck, the walls themselves are recycled) and located in the heart of the restaurant-heavy South Lamar neighborhood (it's a stone's throw from the funky South Austin Museum of Popular Culture, too), but it's also selling what Griffiths thinks are the best pastries in town. Croissants, chocolate brioche, and other goodies such as shortbread cookies come courtesy of Barrie Cullinan, formerly the pastry chef at Vespaio and Enoteca. Owners Victoria Davies and Dan Berezcki also worked with Owl Tree coffee roasters to create a distinct blend of beans that hail from Chiapas, Mexico.

Ah, la Boite looks so pretty all dressed up for the evening. designSTUDIO did the design and construction of that classy lady (she must be a lady, as she has a certain nautical nature...) and photos with proper lighting gear truly bring out her beauty!
