Meal of the Moment: Sea Salt, Naples, Florida

Thursday, January 14, 8:00 p.m., Sea Salt

It started with an assortment of fried calamari, shrimp, oysters and scallops so crispy and juicy that we ate more than we should have, considering the six courses to come. Next, our dinner at Sea Salt in Naples, FL went on salumi, gnocci, and our favorite, penne with smoked salmon in roasted tomato-vodka sauce, at which point we were fat and happy and ready for a good night's sleep. But then, chef Fabrizio Aielli decided to plop down some truffles onto the table—one of which had been expertly crafted with so many sharp angles it looked like a pink-hued Kenneth Snelson sculpture—along with ice cream and cupcakes. The salted caramel was our favorite of the last category; you can see it above, the third from the left, with its crowning piece of caramel about to slide down its side like a glacier. (Don't worry, Mollie "saved" it before it did any harm.)
