Long Live Gourmet, The Dinner Party

Sunday's Long Live Gourmet dinner party was a success. We tweeted live from the event ("Trying to figure out what to do with the sage for the chicken liver crostini...," "Someone arrived with bourbon. Manhattans are happening. Mollie is happy"), we tried not to eat the spoon cookies before everything else, and we stayed up way too late. Mostly, we talked about Gourmet. Here's a sampling of the dishes our guests brought to honor our favorite food magazine:

Hard-boiled eggs, sour cream, onion and caviar layered together into a tart (and served with extra thin Pepperidge Farm toasts, of course). What better way to start off the evening?

My plate: Mâche, frisée, and radish salad with mustard vinaigrette (May 2007), caviar tart (originally 1988, republished in January 2006), quick radish pickles (May 2009), and peppered chicken liver and fried onion bruschetta (August 1994—we skipped the sage).

It was hard to stay away from the spoon cookies (December 2005) and the candied-fennel-topped lemon cake (April 2009). Some people strategically placed themselves at arm's distance from this window ledge.

Not pictured: Couscous and lentil salad (September 1995), David Chang's roasted brussels sprouts (October 2007), Middle Eastern Shepherd's Pie (November 1987), and the famous double chocolate layer cake (March 1999). (You can read the cake maker's recap on her own blog, Much Depends on Dinner.)

Full drinks, fuller tummies, and good conversation. We hope we did Ruth justice.

Did Mollie mention that the sage came straight from the Simpson Lane Farm stand in York Harbor.......
